Launch of drone invented by AAUB students

On February 25, 2025, the drone invented and designed by Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh made its successful maiden flight at BAF Lalmonirhat tarmac. Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, BBP, OSP, GUP, nswc, psc, GD(P), Chief of Air Staff Bangladesh Air Force was present as Chief Guest and observed the event.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has been organize the most prestigious competition in the world on 'Design Build and Fly (DBF)' every year since 1996. From the beginning, this competition is considered worldwide as an important platform for aerospace engineering students. Selected students of Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh (AAUB) are going to participate in the competition for the first time on 06 April 2025, taking up the challenge of designing, building and flying the invented aircraft. A drone was designed for the competition by the university's DBF team that would carry another glider with its payload and operate using the aerodynamic properties of the glider's without any engines of its own. In future this drone can be used in automated surveillance, disaster management, agriculture and other sectors. In a remote area like Lalmonirhat using limited facilities, inventing such a modern drone was very challenging. Under the overall supervision of Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal A K M Manirul Bahar, OSP, BSP, ndc, hdmc, afwc, psc, ADWC and Chairman of Aerospace Department Group Captain Saifur Rahman Bakaul, acsc, psc, PhD, Engg a team of 35 members successfully discovered the drone through a long effort.

Various types of research and innovation activities are ongoing in the university. In line with this, 02 prototype drones have already been discovered and their taxi test and flight test have been completed. This kind of innovative ability of the students of this university is expected to brighten the future of the aerospace industry in Bangladesh.
